She's like a part of me I can't let go
Ada, Ada, Ada. You sure have a way to manipulate men and Leon was no exception. You cannot blame the guy though, how can you not fall head over heels for a vavacious exotic older beauty like herself? It's just such a shame that she keeps toying with the poor guy's heart.
We are first introduced to Ada in Resident Evil 2 as the random woman looking for her "missing boyfriend". Being the goofy newbie cop Leon was, he trusted her full heartedly and stayed by her side from the get-go. Throughout the game Leon shows obvious signs that he's falling for her. He's constantly harping at her about how he needs to be by her side to protect her even though they only known each other for a few hours.
"Ada! Running off like that was reckless and stupid! Those zombies are everywhere not to mention that thing that got Ben."
"I was there Leon, I know."
"Look Ada, as an officer it’s my job to look out for you. But we’re not going to get through this alive if we don’t work together.""
Maybe it's just him trying to be a man and a cop, but Ada is a big girl, infact she's even older than Leon. I'm sure she could've handle herself. To top it off, you don't see Leon giving that kind of reassurance to Claire in the beginning. Instead he rather be spilt up from her. Real smooth Leon!
As dorky as Rookie Leon is, we start to see Ada having feelings for Leon too, especially towards the end of the game when she gets injuried. Ada is suppose to be this cold manipulative spy, yet for some reason Leon brings out the softer side of Ada. Even when Leon found out the truth about Ada, it didn't stop him from caring about her.
"Shut up! You’re gonna make it!"
"It’s too late Leon. We both know it."
"No! I promised you we would escape. You just have to help me out here!"
"I really wanted to escape with you...Escape from everything... Goodbye..."
It's a brief conversation, but its blunt enough to show their true intentions for each other. Also, its quite obvious that Leon really liked Ada when she "died" and Leon starts pounding the ground and shouting ADA!! in the air.
Now we have a broken hearted Leon who never got a chance to show how much of a man he really was to her. Just when we think Leon has moved on with his life, Ada reappears in Resident Evil 4. It's still obvious that Leon shares feelings for Ada, but Leon has been jaded before and he is an experienced older man now, so he handles his tension with Ada with a lot more grace than he did in Resident Evil 2.
Their relationship in RE4 is very cat n' mouse. One moment they're helping each other out, the next they are at each others throats. In the end though, they prove that they can never hurt each other. Even when Wesker gives orders to Ada to kill Leon, of course she can't go through with it. The same goes with Leon. He knows Ada is a manipulative woman with a dark past and he had many chances to have his way with her, but he still let's her go about her business.
It's most evident that Leon can't let the old flame die between them when Leon and Ashley are talking at the end.
"Somehow I knew you were going to say that, but it doesn't hurt to ask, you know. So, who was that woman anyway?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Come on. Tell me."
"She's like a part of me I can't let go. Let's leave it at that."
Oooh Leon. You turned down a girl that was throwing herself at you. All for a woman that you just can't seem to snag. Keep dreaming Leon, keep dreaming. I hope one day Ada comes around for your sake. ♥
