What’s going on in this town?
Leon's story begins in Resident Evil 2 on September 29, 1998. We learn pretty quickly that Leon is a 21 year old newbie police officer for Raccoon Police Department that was newly recuited from the police academy. On his first day on his job, Leon heads out to Raccoon City for his first assignment, little did he know that a vicious virus plague called the T-Virus created by Umbrella, was sweeping up the town. It was never fully explained in the game how Leon managed to get into Raccoon City since the US Army blockaded the city.
When he finally stumbled into the city, he was greeted with a horrid sight of the town full of dead people and many people turning into zombies because of the infectious T-Virus. After defending himself from his first zombie encounter, Leon happened to meet up with another Raccoon City survivor, Claire Redfield. Claire's purpose in Raccoon City was that she was trying to find her older brother Chris Redfield, who had gone missing for quite some time. From there, Leon and Claire decided to seek coverage in the R.P.D.'s headquarters. Once they got there though, they agreed to search for a way out of the city seperately.
As Leon wanders through the town searching for an exit, he ends up meeting Ada Wong, yet another surivor in the city. At the time Ada claimed that she was looking for her missing boyfriend. They end up finding a hidden entrance within the sewer leading to one of secret facilities belonging to Umbrella.
Later, Leon finds out that Ada is actually a spy for Umbrella's undisclosed competitor. Spy or not, a mysterious figure, most likely Ada Wong, helps Leon by giving him a rocket launcher to help defeat the last bad guy, Tyrant. Leon managed to reunite with Claire and Sherry, a little girl that Claire happened to find along the way. All three escape through a secret railway and then eventually abandoning the train, leaving the mutated William Birkin to be destroyed in the chaos.
About a month later in December 1998, Claire sets out to Europe to continue her search for her brother. Leon remained in the US with Sherry for some time. Leon ended up making a deal with U.S. Government for Sherry's safety. Soon after he became a member of an Anti-Umbrella task force, participating in mission after misson until Umbrella's operations were shut down by the government. During one mission, Leon provided Claire's whereabouts to her brother Chris, after receiving an e-mail message from her.

Now that Umbrella is out of the picture, Leon makes a promise to himself to continue protecting people for the sake of all the ones that tragically died in Raccoon City. Around the year 2001, Leon's talented skills and hard work becomes noticed by the US Government and was eventually recuited into its ranks. He recieved unique and special training for a top secret organization working directly under the U.S. president. This was the start of Leon's journey of becoming a special agent. During this time, Leon became good friends with another agent named Jack Krauser.
Unfortunately in 2002, it was supposedly reported that Jack died from a helicopter crash. Even with a loss of a friend, Leon still pushed foward with the vigorous US government training and brought himself to new limits. As a couple years went by, a once foolish awkward rookie police officer managed to transform himself into a confident man that happens to be one of the best agents in the world.
Los Illuminados
I'm in this lonely and rural part of Europe
In 2004, we have a 27 year old seasoned special US Government agent in our hands and the start of Resident Evil 4. You would think one tragic after another the poor guy would catch himself a break. That's not the case though for Leon Kennedy when he gets an assignment to retrieve a kidnapped girl, Ashley Graham, who happens to be the United States' President's daughter. With little information to go by Leon starts his mission in a village in Spain, a remote area with rumors that it possibly could be the place where the kidnappers might be at.
After investigating the village and discovering such strange behavior in the locals, Leon learned that the townsfolks were part of some twisted religious group called Los Illuminados (The Illuminated). This group was created by Osmund Saddler who used a parasitic organism known as Plaga to take control of the local people, as well as many others around the area. On occassion throughout his mission, Leon gets help from a handful of people such as Luis Sera. A researcher that once worked for Saddler, but ended up betraying him. Even Ada Wong makes an appearance in Leon's life again. She provided assistance to him, but never sticked around long enough to fully help him. Leon is also assisted by Hunnigan, an US Government Analyst that guides Leon through a communicator. As Leon progresses however, he finds the transmission between them gets hijacked by the cult and he is forced to fend for himself.
The special agent eventually finds Ashley in a church and he becomes responsible for her safety as the two make their way around the Los Illuminados infested place. It is revealed that both Leon and Ashley were injected with the Plagas and then have to race against time to find a cure before they are turned into Saddler's slaves.
Through the journey and many bosses later, Leon managed to find out the Jack Krauser is still well and live and is apperently being a double agent for a Wesker and Saddler. Not being the same friend that Leon once knew, they end up breaking into fights with each other. Later once again, Ashley gets herself abducted and Leon must rescue her before the Plaga takes full form. After many scary zombie fights later, going though a local military base, even more fights with Jack, Leon comes to the rescue and finds Ashley in one piece. They eventually find a unique radiation machine that was developed by Luis that would help them remove the Plagas.
Once the Plagas were removed, Leon finds himself one-on-one in a battle with Saddler. Thanks to the help of Ada and her special rocket launcher, Leon is able to destroy Saddler's disgusting monster form once and for all. A Plaga sample is left behind after the death of Saddler but Ada decided to take the sample for herself for Wesker who she is working for, and makes her getaway through a helicopter. Leaving behind a jet-ski key, Leon and Ashley make their way through the chaos and successfully find the jet-ski and burst their way out into the open sea.
